    Yes, you can use the Razer Core X Chroma without a GPU. The additional USB-A ports and gigabit ethernet port will function without a graphics card installed. However, the Razer Core X requires the installation of a GPU in order for the device to function.

  • Does the Razer Core X or Razer Core X Chroma come with a GPU?

    No, they do not come equipped or pre-configured with a graphics card.

  • Does the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma work with any laptop?

    The Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma connect to devices via Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 interface. However, we should add that while the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma are designed to support 3-slot wide GPUs, we recommend users check the compatibility list and compare the measurements of their desired card with both the cards found in the compatibility list and the dimensions listed on the technical specifications.

    To be precise, the Razer Core X features a 650W ATX power supply and 2x 8-pin (6+2-pin PCI-E) connectors while the Razer Core X Chroma comes with a 700W ATX PSU with 2x 8-pin (6+2-pin PCI‑E) connectors.

    For users looking to leverage a desktop graphics card with their Thunderbolt™, Thunderbolt™ 4 or USB4 enabled device, the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma are external graphics enclosures that can connect desktop grade graphics to supported devices.

  • When did the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma come out?

    The Razer Core X was released in 2018 while the Razer Core X Chroma was released a year later on April 16, 2019.

  • Does the Razer Core X Chroma have any additional ports?

    Yes. The Razer Core X Chroma features four USB 3.1 Type-A connectors and a Gigabit Ethernet port.

  • Is the Razer Core X or Razer Core X Chroma compatible with laptops that use AMD processors?

    AMD devices that feature USB4 connection protocols may support eGPU compatibility. As it is up to the manufacturer’s design, we recommend you check their technical specifications and documents to be sure that their systems can support eGPUs.

  • Does the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma support Mac devices?

    Only Macs (Intel based) * running Thunderbolt™ 3 and macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 or later support eGPUs. eGPUS like the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma are not supported by M1 or M2 (Apple Silicon) Mac devices.

  • Does the Razer Core X or Razer Core X Chroma come with a Thunderbolt™ cable?

    Yes. Both the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma come with a 0.5 m (19.6” or 500 mm) Thunderbolt™ 3 cable.

  • Is the Razer Core X or Razer Core X Chroma compatible with Thunderbolt™ 4 or USB4?

    Yes. Thunderbolt™ 4 devices should support eGPU devices like the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma. As Thunderbolt™ 4 is backwards compatible with Thunderbolt™ 3 and encompasses the requirements and capabilities of the older protocol.

    USB4 support is handled on a laptop-by-laptop basis at the moment. You will need to check your manufacturer’s technical specifications to ensure that your system supports eGPUs.

    No, the Razer Core X and Razer Core X Chroma are plug and play devices. We recommend updating your system’s drivers and security updates along with double checking the connection, cables and GPU compatibility to ensure the best possible performance when using a Razer Core X or Razer Core X Chroma.

  • Should the power supply fan or GPU fans always be on when the Razer Core X or Razer Core X Chroma is connected to my laptop?

    Yes, the PSU fans should always be spinning if the Razer Core X or Razer Core X Chroma is powered on, has a compatible graphics card connected, and a Thunderbolt™ 3 or 4 cable plugged in.

    If your GPU fans are not spinning check the manufacturer specifications as they may not be heating up to the point where the fans need to kick on.
