Meet Andy Harbeck, Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine’s latest featured artist. A visual artist and filmmaker, Andy creates short looping animations that bring retro-futuristic cities to life on the desktop. Blending synthwave, cyberpunk, and neo-nostalgic aesthetics, his 3D scenes capture the feeling of a place you’ve never been but somehow miss. In this spotlight, Andy shares his journey from childhood flipbooks to a career in visual effects, why Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine is a natural fit for his work, and the inspiration behind his latest collection.
From Flip-Books to Film VFX: A Lifelong Animation Journey
Andy’s love for animation started long before pixels entered the picture. “I’ve been creating art and visual storytelling since childhood,” he recalls, tracing his beginnings to pencil flip-book animations, VHS frame-by-frame experiments, and claymation. Everything changed when he received his first computer, an Apple IIgs, which introduced him to 2D digital animation. He went on to study 3D graphics and animation in college and eventually built a career in the film industry as a VFX and animation artist.
Today, Andy shares his work through digital platforms and galleries, publishes content on YouTube, and has showcased films and artwork at festivals and industry events. Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine offers another home for his creations, this time on users’ desktops.
Why Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine?
Andy was drawn to Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine for one simple reason: it puts high-quality wallpapers straight into viewers’ hands. “It’s a platform that directly connects creators and users and allows artists to share high-quality wallpapers with ease,” he says. “It’s a natural fit for expressing my retro-futuristic visual style and providing users with fun and unique wallpapers.”
Nostalgia for Places You’ve Never Been: Andy’s Latest Collection
Andy’s latest collection draws inspiration from vintage city neon lights and classic technology, creating scenes that feel familiar and imagined. “I was inspired by vintage city neon lights and technology to create pieces that tell a story and create a sense of nostalgia even for places the viewer hasn’t been,” he explains.
Blending 2D and 3D animation techniques, Andy creates quiet, atmospheric scenes that invite viewers into moments suspended in time. “I strive to transport the viewer into a liminal space, giving glimpses into a story that’s unfolding, evoking emotions of nostalgia for the past.”

What’s Next?
Andy doesn’t follow a fixed schedule, but new work is always in progress. “I regularly contribute new wallpapers and looping animated pieces inspired by evolving themes and unique storytelling,” he says.
He also has words of encouragement for artists just starting out: “Follow curiosity and emotional connection in your work. Start where you are, explore what moves you, and trust that blending your interests, whether it’s movies, music, or games, will help you find a unique creative voice.”
