Razer Axon Wallpaper Engine’s latest featured artist Darya Kawa transforms the moon, planets, and stars into sharp, high-resolution portraits of the night sky. What began with a DSLR and a passion for landscape photography in 2012 eventually evolved into years of self-taught astrophotography and telescope work.
From Landscape Photography to the Beauty of the Night Sky
Darya’s artistic journey began with landscape photography. Picking up his first DSLR marked the beginning of what he describes as “My 1000 miles journey starts”, the start of a path that eventually turned his lens skyward.
That direction changed in 2018, when Darya purchased his first amateur telescope and began teaching himself the fundamentals of astrophotography and night sky photography. “My passion mostly becomes capturing beauty of night sky,” he explains. From there, the moons, planets and stars became the focus of his work.
The journey has not always been straightforward. Based in Erbil, in the Kurdistan region, Darya has faced restrictions around bringing telescopes into the city. His first telescope was even confiscated at an airport before he was eventually able to retrieve it.
Despite these challenges, he continued pursuing astrophotography, sharing his night sky photography and moon images with fellow artists and audiences through social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.

Each moon wallpaper reflects a careful process of photography and editing. Darya describes them as being “photographed and edited with pixel precision to ensure ultimate quality,” preserving the fine details that make the collection feel both intimate and expansive — close enough to reveal the moon’s craters, yet wide enough to capture the sky around them.
What’s Next?
Darya approaches new uploads with patience, choosing quality over quantity and continuing to photograph the natural skies without relying on AI-generated imagery. “Since I’m not an AI user and I don’t use AI for my images, I remain drawn to capturing natural beauty of skies,” he explains.
That pursuit can mean waiting months for the right conditions. In fact, one of his latest Instagram posts took a full year to complete because he was searching for the perfect combination of clouds and moonlight. “I always prefer quality over quantity,” Darya says, promising future work shaped by the same dedication to capturing authentic, naturally occurring skies.
