At Razer, we don’t just build hardware; we create experiences. For over a decade, Razer Chroma RGB has shaped how gaming setups look and feel, expanding from keyboards and mice to headsets and desks. With Project Madison, we explored how that experience could extend to where you sit.
First revealed as a concept at CES 2026, Project Madison asked a simple question: what more could a gaming chair be? The response from the community gave us the confidence to develop that concept into a finished product.
Leading that process was Charlie Bolton, Razer’s Global Head of Design. For Charlie and his team, the challenge was to bring Razer Chroma RGB into the gaming chair while preserving the comfort, support, and everyday usability expected from Razer seating.
Introducing the Razer Soma Chroma, our first-ever Razer Chroma RGB gaming chair, designed to deliver a more immersive gaming experience. This is the story behind how we brought it to life.
Razer Chroma RGB, Built Into the Experience

The Razer Soma Chroma was designed to do more than support the way you sit. With Razer Chroma RGB built into the chair, it becomes part of the experience unfolding across your setup.
With game-reactive lighting across more than 300 supported PC titles, the chair can respond to what is happening on screen. Depending on the game, its lighting may shift as you take damage, cast an ability, or enter a new environment, extending the experience across more of your setup.
Through Razer Synapse, you can also choose from 16.8 million colors and 10 lighting effects, giving you control over how the chair looks both in and out of supported games.
For streamers, RGB enthusiasts, and anyone building a connected setup, the Razer Soma Chroma adds another layer of visual customization to the space around them.
Engineered for All-Day Comfort
Bringing Razer Chroma RGB into the chair was only half the challenge. The Razer Soma Chroma still had to deliver the comfort and support expected from an ergonomic gaming chair built for longer sessions.
At the heart of the chair is a built-in ergonomic lumbar arch that provides consistent lower-back support. Integrated directly into the backrest, it follows the natural curve of your lower back and stays in place as you settle into your preferred position.
We paired this with a dual-density cold-cured foam seat cushion designed for lasting comfort and support. A softer top layer provides cushioning, while a firmer base helps maintain a stable foundation as the session continues.
The perforated finish also helps improve airflow across the seat, making the chair better suited to longer gaming sessions, workdays, and streams.
Built for Everyday Use

Comfort also depends on having room to move. The chair features an adjustable backrest with up to 155° of recline, allowing you to sit upright for focused play or lean back when it is time to relax.
The Razer Soma Chroma is constructed around a reinforced steel frame and supported by a durable five-star steel wheelbase. It supports a maximum load of 150 kg, or 331 lbs, and is designed for users between 160 and 200 cm tall, approximately 5 feet 3 inches to 6 feet 6 inches.
Together, these features give the chair the stability and adjustability needed across the different ways you use your setup.
Power and Control Within Reach

A connected gaming chair should still feel simple to use. The Razer Soma Chroma uses a USB Type-C connection and can be powered through a wall outlet or compatible power bank. Using a power bank gives you more flexibility when positioning the chair and reduces the need to run a cable across the floor.
A built-in control panel lets you cycle through lighting effects, adjust brightness, and switch between 2.4 GHz PC and Bluetooth connections directly from the chair.
More detailed customization remains available through Razer Synapse, while the controls you are likely to use most often stay within reach.
From Project Madison to Razer Soma Chroma
From the first ideas behind Project Madison to the finished Razer Soma Chroma, the goal was to create a gaming chair that could feel more connected to the experience around it.
With Razer Chroma RGB built into its design, the Razer Soma Chroma brings more presence, personality, and responsiveness to the setup, while delivering the comfort and support needed for everyday use.
